On Friday, August 19th, the four Cathedral bells were lowered into the bell spire under the watchful eyes of crowd of media, parishioners and donors. Beginning with the largest bell, the “C” bell, weighing close to 5000 lbs, the bells were lifted one by one over 100ft into the air and then lowered and guided gently into the spire. To install all four bells took just over 8 hours.
Onlookers were rewarded with the occasional ringing of the bells as the clangers and swing clearance were tested.
Now begins the installation of the electrical work to ring the bells and light the spire, as well as the installation of the 200+ pieces of stained glass. All is to scheduled to be complete by the end of September 2016.
